About Our Photos

Our collection of historical photographs focuses on cities, towns and landscapes, mainly from the period of 1860-1930. Old photos are a fascinating window onto history showing those places most important and interesting to us: our towns, our ancestry, and our common heritage.

Photo Paper

We print all photos on fiber-based, 100% cotton photographic paper with a semi-gloss finish, reminiscent of photo papers in use at the turn of the twentieth century. Our photographic prints have excellent archival properties, and when stored or framed properly will last far longer than traditional photographs before any fading or discoloration occurs.

Sizes and Borders - Standard Sizes

Most of our photos are offered in standard sizes so that they may be easily framed in store-bought, standard-size frames. The sizes listed with each photo indicate the exact size of the paper you will receive. A minimum of 1/4" border is included on all sides. Some photos may have different proportions than the standard sizes listed--in these cases, the borders on two sides may be larger than the borders on the other two sides.

In the following example, the dimensions of the left image match the final paper size, so that the border on each side is 1/4". The dimensions of the right image are not the same as the final paper size, and borders on two sides are unequal to the borders on the other two sides. In both cases the final paper size is the same.

Sizes and Borders - Non-Standard Sizes

For photos that are significantly wider (or taller) than standard sizes (a panorama, for example), the final paper size of the print you will receive will not be a standard size. Instead it will match the proportions of the photograph. As with standard size photos, the sizes listed with the photo indicate the final paper size you will receive. The photos will include a 1/4" border on each side.

In the following example, the photo is considerably longer than a standard size, so the paper size has been adjusted to match the proportions of the photo, and borders of 1/4" are included on each side.
