Product Information

About our Photos

Our photos are very high quality modern prints made using the finest photographic materials. All photos are printed on professional semi-gloss 300gsm weight photographic paper. Our prints have excellent archival properties, and when stored or framed properly will last far longer than traditional photographs before any fading or discoloration occurs.

Sizes and Borders - Standard Sizes

Most of our photos are offered in standard sizes so that they may be easily framed in store-bought, standard-size frames. The sizes listed with each photo indicate the exact size of the paper you will receive. A minimum of 1/8" border is included on all sides. Some photos may have different proportions than the standard sizes listed--in these cases, the borders on two sides may be larger than the borders on the other two sides.

In the following example, the dimensions of the left image match the final paper size, so that the border on each side is 1/8". The dimensions of the right image are not the same as the final paper size, and borders on two sides are unequal to the borders on the other two sides. In both cases the final paper size is the same.

Sizes and Borders - Panoramas

For photos that are significantly wider (or taller) than standard sizes (a panorama, for example), the final paper size of the print you will receive will not be a standard size. Instead it will match the proportions of the photograph. As with standard size photos, the sizes listed with the photo indicate the final paper size you will receive. The photos will include a 1/8" border on each side.

In the following example, the photo is considerably longer than a standard size, so the paper size has been adjusted to match the proportions of the photo, and borders of 1/8" are included on each side.

We use only highly archival pigment inks in all products we sell. When stored or framed properly, our prints will last more than 200 years before any noticeable fading or changes in color balance occur*.

However, several factors may affect the longevity of your print:

Light

Regular exposure to light, especially ultraviolet light (UV) will cause fading over time. It is best to keep your print away from sources of UV light, especially direct sunlight. Other sources of UV light include fluorescent lamps and some halogen lamps.

While dark storage offers the best protection against light, most people choose to frame and display their print. Choose a glass or acrylic cover with UV filtering when framing to obtain the best protection. Never hang your print where it will receive any direct sunlight.

Temperature

Avoid storing or displaying your print in high or extremely low temperatures. The optimum temperature range is 68°-77° F (20°-25° C).

Humidity

Avoid storing or displaying your print in high or extremely low humidity. The optimum humidity range is 30-50% relative humidity.

Atmospheric Contaminants

Pollutants such as cigarette smoke, cooking fumes, and other chemicals also can affect print longevity. Prints should be stored to avoid contact with air, or framed behind glass or acrylic (especially glass with UV filtering). Never store or display your print in an area where chemicals are stored.

Acidity

Print quality can diminish if prints are stored or displayed in direct contact to materials with high acidity. Acidic materials can cause the paper to discolor and may change the colors in the print. When storing or framing your print, make sure to use only acid-free archival materials.

When you receive your print you should immediately frame it, or store it in an archivally safe sleeve or container.

Handling your Print

When handling prints, hold the paper by the edges only - never touch the printed surface. Oils on your hands could transfer to the print, potentially degrading the quality. The print is reasonably resistant to scratches, but it is always best to handle it with care.

Storing your Print

If you plan to store your print, make sure to store it in an archival protective sleeve or an archival box (for storing more than one print). Prints that we ship flat will already come in an archival sleeve. You should keep this sleeve for storage. For prints that we ship in tubes you will need to purchase an archival sleeve or box. Prints should be stored flat, and may be stacked as long as there is an interleaving layer such as glassine, acid-free tissue, or protective sleeves. Store the print in a dark place away from sources of light.

Framing your Print

When framing your print, make sure to use all acid-free materials, and always choose glass or acrylic cover with UV filtering. Never hang your print where it will receive any direct sunlight.
