A view of Faneuil Hall with shops at street level under an awning that surrounded the building. Faneuil Hall was built in 1742 as a marketplace and meeting place, and played an important role during the American Revolution as the site of several speeches by people, including Samuel Adams, encouraging independence from Britain.
