About This Map
Shows the city of San Francisco and San Francisco Bay in the second half of the nineteenth century. The western half of the city is still largely undeveloped, though the borders and some of the roads in Golden Gate Park are already visible. The entire Bay Area is covered, from Petaluma and Napa in the north to San Jose in the south. The Central Valley and snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains are just visible in the distance. The map is oriented with north to the left.
